ActionAid South Africa is a part of ActionAid International, an anti-poverty agency working with poor people in over 40 countries. It was official established in May 2006 as a country programme in South Africa, after previously operating as the Southern Africa Partnership Programme, bringing together poverty eradication initiatives in Botswana, Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Namibia, Swaziland, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
ActionAid South Africa seeks to appoint a Project Manager for the Young Urban Women’s Life Choices and Livelihoods Project, based in Johannesburg.

Responsibilities:
Overall coordination;
Management and delivery in Actionaid South Africa of the multi-country funded project on Young Urban Women’s Life choices and Livelihoods;
Support project staff and partners to deliver on the objectives set out by the project;
Build relationships with potential partners and develop a platform for regular information sharing, alliance building and advocacy with relevant stakeholders;
Work closely with the Women’s rights coordinator, partner staff, and the international project manager to coordinate programming and advocacy opportunities both nationally and internationally.

Requirements:
University degree in women’s rights/gender studies or related field;
Four years experience in community development preferably in women rights, Sexual Reproductive and Health Rights (SRHR) and / or workers’ rights / decent work;
Direct field experience of working with young women;
Experience of working for a nonprofit or government agency working on issues related to development and women’s rights;
Experience of managing institutional donor-funded projects;
Cross-cultural experience, understanding and sensitivity of gender issues;
Knowledge of policy issues related to women’s rights, SRHR, and / or workers’ rights/decent work;
Networking / relationship-building skills;
Skills in written and spoken English;
Ability to work effectively in a diverse team environment;
Self-motivated person able to work without close supervision;
Interpersonal skills and adaptability.
