We currently have the following programmes comprising of young talented individuals, in partnership with the Insurance Sector Education and Training Authority (INSETA).
Graduate development programme
New graduates from university with an actuarial degree or an honours degree in financial planning, economics, risk management or law are given the opportunity to gain practical experience in the company.
Graduates are permanently employed for a minimum of two years. They rotate to various business units to learn and grasp an in-depth overview of what our business is about. The overall objective is to groom these young graduates to become senior and executive managers, over time.
Alexander Forbes is working to close the skills gap in the South African insurance industry as the number of black South African actuaries is incredibly low. We are a gold sponsor of the South African Actuaries Development Programme, an initiative established to develop black actuaries.
This programme consists of new university graduates without honours degrees. It is run in partnership with INSETA. The main purpose of the programme is to develop specialists, as these graduates do not have a rotational component in their programme.
Both permanent and temporary external learners with a minimum matric qualification join the programme which is sponsored by INSETA. The programme grooms employees to ultimately become certified financial planners through an articulation process from Wealth Management Level 5 – 7, the latter level being the prestigious CFP qualification.
Learners can complete each level within one year of in-house class attendance. Permanent employees with years of retirement funding experience have an opportunity to balance their experience with formal academic certification as experts in the industry.
Alexander Forbes sponsors employees to study relevant courses with accredited universities. This helps them to grow their expertise and develop their careers. Alexander Forbes does not have an open bursary scheme for external people.
