Chevron: Trading and Supply Analyst

Chevron South Africa is accepting online applications for the position of Trading and Supply Analyst located in Cape Town, South Africa through September 26, 2013.
Position Details: Responsibilities for this position include, but are not limited to:

1. Trading and Supply commercial analysis

• Perform commercial analysis of Trading and Supply chain activities e.g. Imports, Trade deals, Supply chain movements, Export -, Competitor -, Bunker sales, etc.
• Provide inputs/recommendations to the Management Operating System(MOS), Sales & Operations Plan(S&OP) and Enterprise Channel Optimization Planning and Execution(ECOPE) forums regarding key commercial drivers that impact profitability
• Provide analytical support to the VCO Supply and Trading teams to generate economics for existing or new initiatives
• Analyze LIFO inventory revaluation impacts on enterprise earnings. Provide inputs for monthly LIFO forecasts, generate yearend DVLIFO forecasts and report out on earnings impacts
• Work with the regional Earnings Forecaster to develop the regional monthly earnings forecast for Manufacturing Supply, Fuel supply and Bulk System Sales segments
• Work with the regional Capital and Business Planner to develop the regional Business Plan for abovementioned segments
• Keep management appraised of all reporting and earnings related issues
• Respond to queries from internal customers

 

 

2. Business Plan variance analysis
Analyze performance of the Manufacturing Supply, Fuel Supply and Bulk System Sales segments against Business Plan. Make recommendations to improve enterprise performance
Compare actual results versus Business Plan and use key commercial drivers to explain variances
Query abnormal variances by engaging relevant individuals/departments
Report variances to management and stakeholders
Recommend corrective action

 

3. Reporting:
Provide appropriate reports as required by the organization to represent the state of the business and explain the business performance against plans / targets
If required, present reports at meetings

Strategic projects and studies
Lead strategic projects and studies as required by the business
Participate in project teams as required by the business
Indentify project opportunities for creating enterprise value

4. Other
Obtain a thorough understanding of reporting tools
Continuously seek business process improvements and drive implementation of such improvements
Should spare capacity be available within this position, then work may be allocated from other positions within the team to ensure an even spread of workload
Identify high risk areas and use Loss Prevention System tools to mitigate risks
Share knowledge with peers/other departments
Encourage others to demonstrate the Chevron Way

 

Required Qualifications:
A tertiary qualification (Commerce or Business Science) and experience relevant to this position will be an advantage
Must have a good understanding of the full value chain
Has a strong financial & analytical background
Has strong commercial acumen
Good communication skills
Possesses a good understanding of the industry, the environment in which the company operates and the overall objectives and vision of the company
Able to work with minimal supervision, be self motivated, enjoy working in a team and can operate under tight or stringent deadlines
Candidate must have the ability to influence performance

Relocation Options:

Relocation may be considered within Chevron South Africa parameters.
