Position Overview:
The Beverage Quality (BQL) wet Chemistry Team Leader provides leadership for the Beverage Quality Wet Chemistry Section. In this capacity the team leader is accountable for ensuring all Trade sample analysis is performed in accordance with defined quality procedures and completed in a timely manner. In addition, the BQL team leader is responsible for providing leadership to the Quality analysts within this section.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
Manage Beverage quality section of laboratory including:
Maintaining an efficient laboratory workflow to ensure completion of analyses of Trade samples with timely and reliable results.
Managing Talent needs (assuring talent fit) of Laboratory by recruiting, training, developing and rewarding the appropriate Laboratory team members.
Providing feedback on performance to team members
Meeting defined Laboratory performance metrics
Identifying and mitigating errors and discrepancies
Performing non-conforming work investigation and problem-solving
Providing guidance to Team members and assure adherence to company and GQAS policy and practices
Proactively identify obstacles and challenges to succeed in your area and work with Leadership team to devise action plans and solutions to minimise impact on the Laboratory.
Create a team environment within the Team, which is inclusive and where employees are empowered to critically challenge the status quo and make positive change.
Continuously improve laboratory efficiency and effectiveness through introduction of new methods, processes and workflows while eliminating non-value added activities.
Actively participate in the BQL network among global quality labs/technical center by sharing procedures, validation reports, experience and learning, to upgrade overall technical capability & level of analytical service group.
Comply with all Quality and Environment, Health and Safety Requirements, and TCCC specifications according to the relevant, Standard Operating Procedures, work instructions and Forms.
FINANCIAL/ JOB SCOPE
Provides trade sample test support to Division and Bottlers within the Africa Region.
ORGANIZATION IMPACT/ INFLUENCE
The data provided to the KO system by the GQAS labs impact quality improvement decisions in producing facilities and distribution centres, thus impacting capital improvement budgets. The data are frequently used as performance indicators and can impact the Compensation of Division and Bottler QA personnel.
Internally, BQL Team leader interacts with Global Quality or Division quality associates to discuss relevant matters or to provide or receive training.
Externally, BQL team leader interacts with Suppliers to provide feedback and with Bottler quality associates to provide consultation and training. Other contacts include vendors of instruments and supplies to obtain materials, equipment, training and services.
Provides credible and legally defendable data and information to our customers for them to be in a position to make decisions which are correct and beneficial for the business.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
Directly accountable for staff of 3-7 people. Includes:
– Completion of Performance & development plans for each associate.
– Providing coaching and feedback.
– Ensure team members obtain relevant training needed to be successful in position.
– Leverage resources to ensure work is completed in a timely manner.
RELATED JOB REQUIREMENTS/ QUALIFICATIONS
At least 7-10 years experience in the food or pharmaceutical industry. Exposure to analytical programs related to carbonated and sensitive beverages. Preference given to candidates familiar with beverage manufacturing processes and Laboratory information system (Nautilus). Familiar with Accreditation and certification programs such as ISO 17025, 9000, 14000, 18000.
EDUCATIONAL REQUIREMENTS
Bachelors degree in Chemistry, biochemistry or related discipline preferred. Bachelors degree with additional related work experience either in advanced GC/LC and Mass spectrometry will also be considered.
ANALYSIS
Build and maintain analytical capability to support laboratory needs
Troubleshoot and problem solve technical difficulties associated with test methods
Review analytical data and determine trends that lead to proactive mitigation of potential risks
JUDGEMENT AND DECISION MAKING
Key decision maker in determining whether actions are necessary to address quality issues identified as part of quality monitoring program.
WORKING CONDITIONS
Laboratory environment. Use of gases under safe conditions. Use of chemicals and standards under good laboratory practices.
TRAVEL REQUIREMENTS
Required to travel within Africa as needed to support follow up on quality issues. May be expected to travel to SME meetings when held outside of Africa.
