CSIR Internship: Fractionation of chemical pulps

The CSIR Natural Resources and the Environment (NRE) unit – in partnership with the University of KwaZulu-Natal (UKZN) – has a position at the Forestry and Forest Products (FFP) Research Centre, based at the University of KwaZulu-Natal in Durban.

The internship entails working under supervision of CSIR staff to conduct fractionation studies on chemical pulps.

Key responsibilities:

  • Conduct fractionation studies on chemical pulps;
  • Conduct bleaching studies on pulps and fines;
  • Collection of samples at mills;
  • Writing of technical reports;
  • Presentation of technical results to an external client.

Qualifications and skills:

  • BTech in chemical engineering
  • Familiarity with pulp and paper technologies, specifically, pulp fractionation techniques and bleaching technologies.
  • Good laboratory practices
  • Good writing skills.
