About The Division

Our Assurance services go beyond merely meeting statutory requirements. We help our clients perform better and achieve their business objectives. We listen to their needs, think about the business implications and tailor our approach accordingly. In today’s changing global economy, businesses need trusted advisors. Because Assurance professionals at Deloitte take the time to understand our clients’ business as well as the industries in which they operate, we can help them identify major risks and opportunities over and above performance of the traditional financial reporting function.

Actuarial and Insurance Solutions (AIS) of Deloitte in South Africa is a leading actuarial insurance consultancy. We have over 70 professional staff including over 25 qualified actuaries (of which 6 are statutory actuaries), with the remainder comprising actuarial students at various stages of qualification. We specialise in the areas of Life Insurance, Healthcare, Short-term Insurance, Capital Markets and Wider Fields Consulting.

We have an extensive client base nationally, meaning we are in touch with the issues of the day and have direct experience of different strategies and approaches within the competitive environment. In terms of technical skills we have many of the top actuaries working in South Africa ‑ our actuaries form part of all the key working groups of the Actuarial Society of South Africa and the Financial Services Board. This exposure ensures we are participating in and contributing to the latest thinking in the profession.

Life Insurance

AIS are currently the statutory actuaries to a number of South African life insurers and have assisted in the actuarial audit of several other insurers. We also have a number of actuarial appointments across Africa. We provide a complete actuarial support in respect of valuation, product development, strategic advice and other support services for our offices with little or no internal resources. We also have a number of large clients for whom we provide services such as embedded value reviews, merger and acquisition advice, process reviews and risk reviews. We typically service over 75% of the life insurers in South Africa.

Healthcare

The Health Care market in particular requires extensive actuarial involvement, and we have developed significant actuarial expertise in this area. We advise a large number of health care players, and we are recognised as one of the leading health care actuarial consultancy firms in South Africa.

Short-term insurance

Our dedicated Short Term Insurance team boasts a wide range of experience and depth of knowledge of the Short Term Insurance Industry. In addition, we are able to leverage off the relationships and experience through our international offices in the UK, Europe, America and Australia.

Wider fields

Financial insight and the ability to project financial impacts is vital to any organisation, regardless of the industry in which it operates. We are able to provide leading edge analytical skills and, if necessary, pair this with other subject matter expert input from the vast range of skill-sets contained within Deloitte.
