DESKTOP SUPPORT TECHNICIAN 8 POSTS REF NO: 286/2015 Directorate: ICT Service Delivery and Operations
SALARY : R196 278 per annum
REQUIREMENTS : A National Diploma/B degree in Information Technology or N6 with extensive experience and/or Grade 12 with extensive experience.
DUTIES : Provide support of LAN infrastructure hardware, workstations, software and peripherals (including Internet/intranet) including backup of information and anti-virus support, and perform troubleshooting and diagnoses. Conduct research and advise on specifications for new hardware and software, and recommend best practices that will improve service delivery.
Perform PC installations, software installation and maintenance, security maintenance (devices and software); and provide remote access services and installation of patches on a manual basis. Develop and follow test plans for compatibility testing for hardware and software analysis and evaluation and assessment of computer equipment and, if necessary, formatting of such equipment with information.
Support and ensure availability of e-mail services, Internet services, application services on workstations and availability of connection to transversal mainframe system. Implement operational guidelines for ICT standards, norms, best practices and procedures in line with national policy.
Perform fault resolutions and incident resolutions and analyse them for the purpose of prioritisation and trends. Be proficient at analysing and documenting customer request requirements and problem symptoms to make recommendations and implement moves, add-ons, changes, and maintenance of desktop equipment. Identify and correct or advise on operational issues in client computer systems. Ensure backup of the Helpdesk Officials.
