ENVIRONMENTAL OFFICER REF NO: DMR/15/0005
SALARY : R183 438 per annum, Level 07
CENTRE : Eastern Cape Region-Port Elizabeth

REQUIREMENTS : An appropriate A three year tertiary qualification in Environmental Management
or Environmental Sciences coupled with relevant experience and valid driver’s
license PLUS the following key competencies. Knowledge of the National
Environmental Management Act (NEMA); Waste Management Act; National
Water Act; Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act; Mining Charter
and other Legislation ie. Environmental Legislation and Public Finance
Management Act. Understanding of policies, rules and regulations governing the
mining environment management and financial provision for rehabilitation
purposes. Skills: interpretation of legislation, interpersonal skills, computer skills,
conflict resolution skills. Communication: verbal and non verbal. Creativity:
information evaluation, ability to work in a team.

DUTIES : Evaluate Environmental Impact Assessments, Scoping reports, Closure plans
and other technical documents and environmental and issue Environmental
Authorisations Conduct comprehensive environmental inspection and
environmental audits Regulate the closure of mine within the stipulated time
frames Issue waste management licences Identify environmental liabilities for
operations and ensure evaluation of adequacy of financial provision Investigate
and resolve mine environmental related issues, queries and complaints. Assist
client through promotion of administrative justice Environmental enforcement and
investigate illegal mining.
