SPORTS REPORTER – Cape Town Newsroom

Reporting to the Executive Producer, Sport, your key performance areas will include:
conduct preliminary and follow-up probing telephonic interviews
arrange interviews and briefing interviewee on topic beforehand
instruct cameraman on set-up of interview (topic, appropriate visuals)
present on camera including broadcasting live into a news bulletin when there is breaking news
check archives for specific identified news items
check articles of interest in newspapers and electronic media (wires)
edit pictures and notes and directing editor to cut pictures according to storyline
establish and build up a comprehensive contacts resource base
identify stories through research, sourcing, networking and studying oversees media
keep abreast of sports developments in the region and advising the assignments desk on which issues should be given prominence
lay voice on tape
provide television reports on the latest sports developments in the region
screen functions, events for possible newsworthy items and representing e.News at functions
writing final copy of news bulletin
write stories to tie in with pictures
perform administrative functions relating to your journalistic work

Requirements:
journalism degree/diploma or equivalent qualification
at least 3 years broadcasting experience
passion for sport and excellent knowledge thereof
ability to combine quality visuals and vibrant scripts
presentation skills
work to strict deadlines
initiative

Note:
the successful candidate will be required to work irregular and long hours, including weekends and public holiday, and standby shifts.
