BSG (Africa) has an opportunity for a Financial Controller within the Cape Town Finance Department

Main Purpose of the Role:

The Financial Controller will play a key role to support and manage the business risk and drive financial performance through cost control and project profitability

Qualifications: 

• Matric (good maths and/or accounting results)
• BCom Degree/CA(SA)

Job Objectives:

• Team Management:
  • Responsible for goal setting and performance management of finance team
• Financial Controls:
  • Review of payroll, month end payments, balance sheet reconciliations
  • Ensure financial controls adequately adhered to
  • Implement controls to manage financial risk within the business
  • Review of annual insurance cover and provision of information
  • Implementation of financial improvements and control using project methodology (Prince 2)
• Management Reporting:
  • Review of Annual Financial Statements & Management accounts for all subsidiary entities
  • Management account compiliation, variance and metric analysis and commentary
  • Assistance with board reporting and quarterly business reporting
  • Assistance with review of BSG (Africa) Annual Financial Statements
  • Assist with calculation of balance scorecard and risk
• Budgeting:
  • Budgetary reporting design & improvement
  • Arranging calculation of metrics to assist with budgeting
  • Completing budgeting and revised budgeting templates for divisions completion
  • Project managing annual budget preparation and revised budget preparation
  • Reviewing divisional budget and revised budget submissions
  • Monthly long term cash flow
• Statutory Requirements and Taxation:
  • Staff loan, bonus provision and leave provision calculations and reconciliations
  • Providing technical accounting theory
  • Complete provisional tax and annual tax information and complete returns on E-Filing
  • Complete efiling for PAYE, VAT
  • Review VAT reconciliation
• Remuneration and Bonusing Process:
  • Collation of feedback and reporting of ratings to divisional heads and calculation of final bonus
  • Completion of salary information for the remuneration committee
  • Completion of salary metrics

Experience:

• BCom with 5-6 years relevant experience or
• A newly qualified CA (SA) with 1-2 years commerce experience

Knowledge:     

• IT & consulting knowledge (preferable but not necessary)
• Pastel Accounting Package (not critical)
• Projects Billing Approach
• Grasp for management accounts and budget principles
• Sound knowledge of GAAP
• Knowledge of the VAT Act and Income Tax Act, PAYE.
• Familiarity with the Companies Act.
• Financial reporting
• Investment opportunities (not critical)
• Company secretarial work

Key Performance Areas:          

• Creditor management as outlined by the business
• Fixed asset management as outlined by the business
• Cash management
• Monthly reporting  & reconciliations
• Stakeholder management within Insurance and Banking as well as internal stakeholders

Other:  

• Willing to travel to Johannesburg
