Internships in South Africa

Ithemba is a Zulu word with the meaning “have faith” or “have confidence”. Fasset has offered various bridging programmes/work readiness programmes over the past few years. The aim of these programmes is to assist graduates in securing work, especially in the financial sector.

To address this need by Fasset, the Ithemba Bridging programme will for 2014 be offer training towards SAQA accredited Generic Management Qualification, Work Readiness Skills, SAP ERP and Pastel Partner. These are integrated software solutions that incorporate the key business functions of small, medium and large financial organisations. Modules from the SAP ERP Financial Solutions will be offered in an e-learning format, and Pastel Partner will be offered in a classroom environment. This complete offering will give the graduate a competitive advantage when seeking work in the financial sector.

Specific Objectives

The Ithemba Bridging Programme 2014 is aimed at learners that have completed a degree or diploma at NQF level 6 or 7 and are unable to secure work. While a university graduate is generally more employable than those without degrees, this largely depends on the courses he or she has studied, and the stark reality is that many degrees that are deemed valuable do not provide graduates with the necessary skill set required by employers. Most graduates in search of jobs either lack work experience, practical “on-the-job knowledge”, and the supervisory skills they need.

The Ithemba Bridging Programme will:

• Recruit 100% African Black learners, in the ratio of 54% women, and 4% disability, who have completed NQF level 6 qualifications.

• Provide a Bridging Programme that includes training on the Generic Management qualification NQF5 SAQA ID 57712, employability and work readiness skills aligned to NQF level 4 unit standards, and two Information Technology components – SAP ERP modules and Pastel Partner.

• Provide a comprehensive mentoring programme; and

• Place learners with Fasset-registered employers (learnerships, internships and permanent employment)
