BSG (Africa) has an opportunity for a Junior Accountant within the Cape Town Finance Department

Main Purpose of the Role:       

The Junior Accountant will play a key role in contributing to the effective operation of the Finance department and will be required to provide top quality service to internal and external customers.

Qualifications:

• Matric (good maths and/or accounting results)
• Accounting Diploma/Bcom Degree

Job Objectives:

• Responsible for overall creditor management and input VAT:
  • Processing creditor invoices, ensuring controls adhered to and coaching areas of business re compliance to the controls, and completing supplier reconciliations
  • Dealing with creditor queries
  • Dealing with departmental queries regarding invoices/payments
  • Preparing and posting journals in respect to reallocations, accruals, prepayments etc.
  • Completing month end reconciliations for balance sheet accounts relating to purchases (accruals, prepayments, training, staff purchases, sundry debtors)
  • Completing the input VAT monthly reconciliation
• Responsible for bank management:
  • Processing payment to suppliers
  • Reconciliation of the bank accounts and petty cash
  • Weekly reporting of cash balances and expected weekly spending
  • Completing transfers between money market and current account
  • Following up queries with Bank and Credit Card relationship manager
• Responsible for fixed asset management:
  • Processing asset purchases and disposals to the fixed asset register
  • Posting depreciation journal monthly
  • Reconciling the fixed asset register to the general ledger
  • Dealing with insurance company regarding insuring new assets and reviewing the annual insurance policy regarding assets
  • Supporting the labelling of fixed asset additions and the annual fixed asset audit
  • Completing CAPEX reporting summary

Experience:

• A BCom Degree with at least 1-2 years’ experience OR
• An Accounting Diploma with at least 2-3 years’ experience
• Experience in a small/medium size organisation preferable
• Creditors, cash and fixed assets experience is essential

Knowledge:

• Creditor ledger/Supplier recons processing
• Fixed asset register processing
• VAT
• Cash management/Bank reconciliations
• Journal processing and balance sheet reconciliations

Skills and Abilities:

• Intermediate Excel skills
• Pastel or similar accounting system
• Intermediate Microsoft office skills
• Strong Numeracy skills
• Excellent planning and organisational skills
• Good ability to manage own time and prioritise tasks
• Attention to detail
• Good written & verbal communication skills
• Ability to follow process/ procedures
• Strong interpersonal skills

• Fixed asset management as outlined by the business
• Cash management
• Monthly reporting  & reconciliations
• Stakeholder management within Insurance and Banking as well as internal stakeholders
