Lawyers for Human Rights (LHR) is an independent human rights organisation with long track record of human rights activism and public interest litigation in South Africa. We offer human rights lawyers an exciting and challenging work environment covering a wide range of social justice issues, including refugee and migrant rights, environmental justice, land reform and housing, international justice and constitutional litigation. LHR is inviting applications for the following positions:

Attorney (Johannesburg) – Environmental Justice
LHR’s Environmental Rights Programme, based in Johannesburg, is looking for an admitted attorney with litigation experience to provide expert legal assistance to civil society organisations and communities affected by environmental degradation. Sound knowledge of the applicable environmental law as well as research and writing skills are essential.

Attorney (Pretoria) – Statelessness and Refugee Rights
LHR’s Refugee and Migrant Rights Programme is looking for an attorney, based inPretoria, to work on  a joint LHR / UNHCR initiative to prevent and reducestatelessness in South Africa. The ideal candidate will be an admitted attorney with litigation experience and good writing and research skills. Knowledge of refugee and administrative law would be an advantage.

Internship Opportunities
LHR offers unpaid internship opportunities at its law clinics in Johannesburg,Pretoria, Cape Town, Durban, Upington and Musina. The programme provides aspirant lawyers and activists with hands-on experience in human rights law and practice, particularly in refugee law, environmental justice and land reform.
