McCain Foods recruits: POTATO SEED AGRONOMIST to be based in Delmas South Africa

Summary:
As a Potato Seed Agronomist specialized knowledge of potato growing and exposure to trial design and potato variety evaluation are key requirements.
To research, test and optimise agronomic practices to ensure a sustainable competitive advantage for McCain with particular focus on potato variety development for South Africa production.

KPI’s:
Maintain relationships with suppliers, factory, agriculture and seed suppliers.
Manage technology transfer.
To introduce improved varieties in terms of yield, quality and factory recovery.

Requirements:
B.Sc Agriculture, Agronomy or equivalent. Two to five years agronomy experience. Sound knowledge of agronomy and the agricultural industry including crops, procurement, planning, production and scheduling.
Sound knowledge of seasonal and climatic factors and variables as well as plant growth and maturity.
Knowledge of product quality and the impact thereof on the achievement of organisational objectives.
Knowledge of pathogens and the interaction between pathogens and to implement processes to deal with the interaction.
The ability to evaluate and make recommendations regarding best practice.
The ability to interpret environmental variables and implement methods to maximise product quality and yields.
