The Consumer Protection Act, 2008 (Act No. 68 of 2008) (the Act) provides for the establishment of a National Consumer Commission (NCC) to promote, support and advance the social and economic welfare of consumers in South Africa
In terms of Section 87 of the Act, the Minister of Trade and Industry, Dr Rob Davies, MP, hereby invites applications for the above position.
The Deputy Commissioner will serve for a term of five (5) years.
Duties
Reporting to the Commissioner, the Deputy Commissioner will be required to:
Assist the Commissioner to manage and direct the activities of the NCC as indicated in the provisions of the Act;
Perform functions of the Commissioner whenever the Commissioner is unable for any reason to perform the functions of the Commissioner or the office of the Commissioner is vacant after receiving designation from the Minister; and
Provide support to the Commissioner in the implementation of the provisions of the Act
Requirements
A postgraduate degree in Economics, Law, Commerce, Industry or public affairs;
A minimum of six (6) to 10 years’ working experience at senior management level in economics, law, commerce, industry or public affairs;
Deep understanding of and interest in consumer or regulatory policy;
Strong analytical and strategic thinking capabilities;
Sound judgement, leadership and management skills;
Excellent communication and negotiating skills;
Ability to develop effective management processes;
Policy development and analysis skills; and
Financial planning and budgeting skills.
