Network Engineer At Clikatell

The purpose of this role is to assist the Network Manager through a proactive approach to system and network administration and design. Aligning the Clickatell network infrastructure with the core requirements of the business and implement the change to the network strategically as directed. Knowledge sharing and mentoring peers is essential.
Key responsibility areas:

• Installation/configuration, operation, maintenance and monitoring of messaging engine hardware, software and related infrastructure with a focus on high availability, stability and security
• Research, recommend new/existing technologies within the division, department and business
• Auditing and analysis of logs and other network data for troubleshooting and preliminary root cause determination, data backup management, change control management for configuration modifications
• Technical liaison with enterprise customers and vendors as required
• Escalated technical support for internal customers
• On call duties on a rotational basis

Experience and education:

• CCNA qualified and in process of completing CCNP (CCNP will be advantageous)
• Must have solid experience with network management solutions (i.e. build/buy, implement, manage/maintain)
• Must have a good understanding of security principles, specifically as they apply to network-level procedures
• Must have proven understanding of and experience with network architecture design and implementation, from LANS and WANS to leased lines and MPLS/VPN interconnects to IP and BGP, etc
• Must have comprehensive knowledge with Cisco routers, switches, firewalls and load balancers
• Must have a solid understanding of backup methodology and infrastructure
• Minimum of 7 years in the IT industry and/or a system/network admin role
• Minimum of 3 years working experience with Unix or derivative
• Must understand and demonstrate knowledge of:
• Networking, from Ethernet to IP
• Operating systems, from bare steel to network services
• IP networks, including but not limited to working knowledge of DHCP, DNS, SMTP, FTP, HTTP
• Demonstrate OSI knowledge
• Must have solid experience with network management solutions (i.e. build/buy, implement, manage/maintain)
• Must have a good understanding of security principles, specifically as they apply to network-level procedures
• Work in a team environment while also being able to work with minimal supervision
• Create and maintain documentation related to managing the Clickatell network.
• Follow network related business processes to ensure a reliable operation
• Reporting on network incidents and related network vendor outages
• Work in a strictly controlled change environment process through a change management process
• Assists in network asset management as well as practice performance management of the network

Recommendations:

• Some understanding and experience of the primary enterprise architectural frameworks and guidelines (e.g. POSIX, Zachman, TOGAF, NIST EA, NEBS, etc.) preferred
• Proven knowledge and understanding of ITIL
• Proven knowledge and experience of at least one scripting language (preferably one of: bash, python, Perl, PHP) a definite plus
• Network-related diploma or degree like CCNA a must
• CCNP or studying towards qualification will be advantageous
• Experience with USSD/IN integration, or exposure to and experience with SS7 a definite advantage
• Own transport and driver’s license beneficial in the rare circumstance where emergency on site support is required at the data centre
