PRINCIPAL COURT INTERPRETERS 2 POSTS; REF NO: 14/ 120 /FS

SALARY : R227 802 – R268 338 per annum. The successful candidate will be required to sign a performance agreement.

CENTRE : Magistrate’s Office, Welkom (1) and Bloemfontein (1)

 

REQUIREMENTS : Grade 12 and a National Diploma in Legal Interpreting. Five years of practical
experience as a Court Interpreter. Knowledge of Sesotho, Setswana, IsiXhosa,
English, Afrikaans and IsiZulu which are predominant languages in this Magisterial
District. A Valid driver’s license. Skills and Competencies: Computer literacy (MS
Office).

Good communication skills (verbal and written). Listening skills.
Interpersonal skills. Time Management. Ability to work under pressure.
Administration and organization skills. Good interpersonal relations. Problem
solving. Planning and Organising. Confidentiality. Art of Interpreting and
Analytical thinking.

 

DUTIES : Key Performance Areas: To render supervisory services in the legal interpreting
and language environment. Render interpreting services in complex cases (i.e.
High profile cases), criminal, civil, Labour Court, Small Claims Courts, Disciplinary
Hearing, Conciliation and Arbitration, Confession, and in Pre-trial proceedings and
Consultations. Translate Legal Document and Exhibits. Develop Terminology.

Assist with the reconstruction of Court Records. Attend to personnel administrative
aspects. Procure foreign language interpreters and casuals in line with PFMA.
Interpret in special cases when necessary.

Control and Supervision of Interpreters; Provide mentoring and coaching to junior / senior interpreters
(training). Manage performance agreement of Court Interpreters. Control leave of
Court Interpreters.
