Job Description
Purpose:

Manage the design and/or design delivery of Railway Designs and feasibility studies for Rail projects.
To plan, co-ordinate and manage the Rail Engineering management at the Detailed Design & Implementation stages by utilising both internal and external resources in accordance with client requirements.
Provide engineering advice and technical solutions consistent with current WorleyParsons and best–practise standards in order to maximise the safety and reliability of relevant client asset classes throughout the asset lifecycle.
To ensure deliverables meet or exceed client objectives.
To ensure that engineering activity commercial outcomes will achieve or better the budgeted gross margin.
To ensure client objectives are meet through the employment of allocated resources as called for under contract terms and manage any identified/required alterations to this under a commercial framework that ensures that the client’s and WorleyParsons objectives are maintained.
To provide strong HSE leadership
To provide Stakeholder management
To support marketing and proposals on all rail related projects on strategic and business as usual fronts

 

Main Accountabilities and Responsibilities:

Proactively manage delivery of engineering to assure budget and schedule objectives are met.
Apply WorleyParsons QA processes to engineering activities to ensure that technical risk is adequately managed.
Promote the WorleyParsons HSE culture, policies and procedures, demonstrated and visible commitment to the Zero Harm philosophies and practices.
Scope and resourcing of allocated projects to ensure the delivery of safe and efficient total engineering design solutions to achieve agreed design commitments and objectives.
Review, monitor and maintain processes relating to the delivery of designs and contract formation to ensure best practice and contractual improvements for the Team.
Manage stakeholder relationships by maintaining regular contact, advising on design status and negotiating solutions to design problems, to ensure design expectations are met.
Oversee the use of external design organisations and internal design staff in delivering total engineering design solutions aligned with the original project scope and agreed deliverables.
Direct, coach and performance manage employees to facilitate and support achievement of design objectives, and employee development.
Implement standards, policies and procedures relevant to design projects, to support an efficient, streamlined, consistent and effective approach across WorleyParsons rail delivery in SSA while complying with quality, safety and legislative guidelines/framework.
Ensure the consideration of safety, environment and heritage aspects during the design phase of projects
Provide technical methodology statements for Tender submissions to ensure that WorleyParsons submissions are technically robust and efficient

 

Job Requirements
Qualifications & Experience:

Proven communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate at all levels of the organisation and stakeholders.
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to apply such skills in a complex technical environment.
Demonstrated ability to manage and lead a project team to deliver total engineering design solutions to meet client requirements.

 

Selection criteria

Tertiary Qualifications in Engineering discipline or equivalent experience (Professional Engineering Registration will be an added advantage)
Knowledge of the design process as it applies to major multi-disciplinary capital projects, including design integration management with an understanding of railway systems and their system interfaces.
Knowledge of relevant codes of practice, standards, legislation and regulations in a multi-discipline engineering environment.
Knowledge and experience is applying QA processes to engineering design and documentation.
Knowledge of Scheduling, Budgeting & Cost Control techniques, applied to design programs.
Proven communication and interpersonal skills, including the ability to negotiate at all levels of the organisation and stakeholders.
Demonstrated analytical and problem solving skills and the ability to apply such skills in a complex technical environment.
Demonstrated ability to deliver design solutions to meet client requirements.
Experience in Project and Contract Management and in the use of relevant tools, systems and techniques in a Construction or Design environment, preferably in a Rail environment.
