Process Scientist/ Engineer at Umgeni Water

Purpose of the Job

Reporting to the Manager: Process Services, you will plan, lead, organise and advise on all aspects associated with providing a process engineering service relating to wastewater treatment in Umgeni Water. Key functions will include waste water technical support to operations, process and engineering design, plant commissioning, process audits, non-conformance investigation, process evaluation, troubleshooting, undertaking research, developing and providing technical training and the provision of a consulting service to Umgeni Water clients.

 

Key Responsibilities

The job involves: Provision of specialist process support to Operations, process design and commissioning of water and wastewater plants* Process evaluation of current and new processes, chemicals and equipment at pilot and full scale level* Feasibility studies* Plant commissioning* Process audits *Innovation through initiating, developing, leading and managing research proposals * Develop and implement Service Level Agreement with customers/stakeholders * Assist in preparation of department’s budget * Develop and update technical training material * People management.

 

Minimum Qualification, Knowlege & Skills Minimum Qualifications:

BSc (Chem. Engineering). BSc. Hons. Water Utilization, Registration with ECSA as a professional engineer/Scientist would be an added advantage* 5 years experience in process design, optimization and control, preparation of detailed specification for tender documents* Experience in potable water, wastewater and effluent treatment will be an advantage* Applicants must have a valid drivers license, be self-motivated and computer literate.

 

Key Knowledge and Skills:

We are looking for an individual who has extensive knowledge of wastewater unit processes, * detailed knowledge of the underlying chemistry, biology and microbiology of water, wastewater and industrial effluent treatment, * can undertake detailed process engineering design * computer literacy * knowledge and application of relevant local and national legislation and standards * facilitation of technical training in the water and waste water industry * risk management * project management.
