REQUIREMENTS : Matric Certificate or National Certificate (Vocational). and appropriate degree or
diploma in General Nursing; recognition with the South African Nursing Council
(SANC) as a General Nurse; Knowledge: Working knowledge of Nursing care
process and procedures, Nursing statues and other relevant legal frame work,
Occupational Health and Safety Act, Older Person’s Charter and Regulations.
Labour Relations Act, Grievance Procedure, Patient’s Rights Charter and Batho-
Pele principles. Skills: Communication, Report Writing, Ability to work as a team,
Interpersonal Relations, Facilitation, Unit Management, Clinical Nursing
Competencies and Policy Formulation; Analytical Thinking, Decision Making.

DUTIES : Demonstrate an understanding of nursing legislation and related legal and ethical
nursing practices; Perform a clinical nursing practices in accordance with the
scope of practice and nursing standards as determined by the relevant health
facility; promote quality of nursing care as directed by the professional standards
as determined by the relevant health facility; Co-ordinate, Implement and
evaluate nursing care programmes; co-ordinate nursing care and prescribe care
plans for inmates; Ensure that a therapeutic environment is created and
maintained; Participate in services training of all staff and conduct health
promotion talks for inmates; Promote and implement Batho-Pele principles and
the rights of the elderly; Ensure compliance with Occupational Health and Safety,
as well as infection control principles; Relieve the Chief Professional Nurse in
charge.
