Numeric is a South African nonprofit company interested in using technology to create exciting and stimulating learning environments.  Numeric’s mission is to help young South Africans excel at maths.  In order to do this, we use a powerful online learning platform called Khan Academy.  Numeric is in the process of setting up Khan Academy programmes in the Johannesburg Metro area, and as such are building a team to manage this expansion.

Numeric seeks to appoint a Programme Manager, based in Johannesburg.

The position of Programme Manager requires someone with dynamic organisational skills, a passion for education (maths in particular!), and an interest in the use of technology in education.

Starting date: 1 October 2013 (negotiable).

This is 15 months fixed-term, contract position subject to renewal.

Each Programme Manager will be responsible for 4-6 schools.

Their responsibilities include:
Managing relationships with partner schools (principals, maths H.O.Ds);
Handling logistics involved with the programmes (finance, transport, connectivity);
Training coaches and teachers on the use of Khan Academy;
Contributing to the development of the programme (curriculum, games, drills);
Supporting and mentoring coaches;
Arranging parents evenings to encourage parent buy-in and commitment;
Running Khan Academy sessions for interested teachers and coaches;
Organizing a Maths Camp over the school winter break;
Creating and managing content on the Numeric website (www.numeric.org).

Requirements:
Bachelor’s degree or equivalent;
Higher grade mathematics through to matric;
Teaching or tutoring experience;
Involvement in outreach projects;
Leadership in extra-curricular projects;
Comfortable with numbers and quantitative topics;
Interest in and ability to handle new and changing technologies;
Passion for education;
Own transport and valid driver’s licence.
