The client is a well respected IT company based in Cape Town. You are going to be responsible for planning; scheduling, monitoring, and directing Teradata projects for a data warehouse. Implementing solutions meeting agreed client requirements and expected Teradata business results is a key part of your role. You might be leading a single project or overseeing multiple smaller sub-projects. You will manage Teradata employees and third party contractors to ensure projects meet established time, cost, technical, and quality objectives. Supporting of projects beginning in the pre-contract sales process and managing them through closeout are part of your accountabilities and you may in turn be supported by additional Project Managers, and/or technical leads. You will need to be skilled at project planning and organizing as you will define the project scope, estimate time, cost, and resources requirements. In planning the project according to advocated Teradata PM methodology and assessing project risk, developing risk mitigation strategies, and supporting the sales team to develop contracts and project pricing play a big part of your function. You must be able to manage project implementation because you will manage all aspects. Another skill that you need is coaching.
Among your duties you will provide timely guidance and feedback to help others strengthen specific knowledge and skill areas needed to accomplish a task or solve a problem. Business needs analysis is a key component of your role, this skill allows you the ability to define the client’s requirements within the context of their business, and to assess the opportunities, benefits, risks, and success factors of a potential solution.
Facilitation and meeting management skills will help you successfully guide the activities of an individual, group or team toward a desired result or outcome, and drive consensus and team ownership of decisions. You must be able to estimate, plan, and manage the work of subcontractors and other external project resources, and develop and manage subcontracting agreements.
Requirements Analysis and Management is important because you have to systematically identify, document, and manage project requirements, tracing the requirements from source through implementation and verification.
Throughout the process you’ll be controlling all requirements and scope change. Lastly you need the skill of System/Technology Integration to identify and bring together a variety of technologies to deliver a complete information system that supports operational and management objectives.
