Purpose of Job / Role Intent:
•Responsible for the updating and implementation and progress reporting of the schedule for Tier 1 or Tier 2 or Tier 3 projects
•Maintenance and regular updating of the project plan as a service to the Project Manager, ensuring that the schedule forecast remains realistic, reliable and predictable. This is achieved by regular resource loading revision, risk analysis, status updates, reporting of progress and advice to the PM on protecting milestone dates and progress.
•Ensure proper governance is adhered to on the project w.r.t. the project plan as provided by the Planning and Scheduling function
•Ensure that the project schedule is regularly updated and integrated with project controls elements, well as reporting against planning specific KPI’s.
•Communication with the Project Controls team is a key enabler for managing progress and risk and as such the planner/scheduler must integrate directly with the controls team.
•During FEL phases of a project, compilation of a resource loaded execution plan for the deliverables and activities of the specific BD&I phase as a service to the Project Manager.
•During the FEL phases of a project, general assistance to the Group Technology Function with building the execution plan.
•Integration of contractor plans with the project schedule, and assessing the integrity thereof
•Resource loading and updating of project schedules with PDA.
•Assistance and reporting to the Project Manager on status, progress and schedule impact
•Meet integrated risk and change management requirements on the project
•Report on schedule forecast of a project, against the agreed control base with the utmost focus on accuracy, predictability and timeous reporting
•Maintain high level of planning & scheduling health on the project
•Reporting w.r.t. functional planning health checks requirements.
•Implementation of Group Technology functional requirements and quality standards in planning and scheduling
•Be an expert in the implementation and use of project planning tools
•Foster a culture of collaboration, personal growth of direct reports and colleagues through technical excellence and robust critical review of all activities and results on projects
•Ensure project planning requirements for gate reviews are implemented
•Ensure compliance by external service providers to Sasol project control reporting requirements

•Execute Project Planning/Scheduling within Policy and Procedures
•Drive the integration of Cost, Schedule, financial and Commercial within a project •
Development and updating of project execution plans for all projects
•Accuracy and timely delivery of planning reports and forecasts
•Avoid external Audit findings
•Ensure high level of planning health on the project

2. Planning & people
•Resource forecasting the planning requirements within the project
•Self-proficiency as a project planning practitioner (tools, methodology, standards, QC, reporting, etc.)Review of the quality of delivery by internal and external resources
•Performance management of individuals with the projects specific planning structure
•Provide coaching and guidance to project planning practitioners

3. Performance management
•Provide efficient and high quality services to the project •
Quality, effectiveness and timeliness delivery of Project Planning deliverables
•Accuracy and predictability of forecast schedule
•Accuracy of project progress reporting

4. Governance & risk management
•Adherence to Policy and procedures •Compliance with internal and external guidelines and policies
Identify & escalate deviations to guidelines & standards.
•Revision control of baseline schedules

5. External relations & reporting
•Reporting to Project Manager •
Accurate and timely reporting of project plan: planned vs. actual, updating of the schedule, etc.
Timeously and in in a responsible manner report on deviation from the baseline.
Serve as a key resource to the PM in advice on project execution and focus in order to implement mitigating strategies and to protect the critical path

Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications and Experience required (most senior level)
•BEng/BSc Eng/BSc (Hons) QS + 36 months project execution planning experience
•Mtech + 48 months project execution planning experience
•Overall at least 5 years accumulative experience in planning / project management / commissioning / controls environment
•8 – 15 years total relevant experience
