SENIOR INSPECTOR OF MINES: MINING 2 POSTS REF NO: DMR/14/0137
SALARY : R630 822 per annum, Level 12
CENTRE : Free State Region
REQUIREMENTS : A Mine Manager’s Certificate of Competency/ A Mining Degree/Diploma/B. Tech
PLUS the relevant experience in the field including the following key
competencies, Knowledge of: Mine Health and Safety Act and Regulations &
Legal proceedings, Mining Engineer, Mine equipment e.g. winders, boilers,
plants, etc., Hazard identification and risk management , Departmental values
and strategic objectives, Skills: Ability to interpret and apply Mine Health and
Safety Act, High level of management skills, Report writing and formulation skills,
Ability to analyse and interpret accidents stats, Ability to recommend mining
engineer solutions, Communication: Negotiation skills (different stakeholders),
Departmental strategies to stakeholders, Enforcement requirements, Mine Health
and safety Acts requirements to all stakeholders, Creativity: Innovative and
creative thinking ability, Ability to work under pressure, Ability to analyse workload
and work-related problems, draft and implement a strategy to ensure
improvement.
DUTIES : Monitor compliance to the Mine Health and Safety Act, 1996 regarding mining
Related matters. Investigate mine related accidents, contraventions and
complaints as well as analyse mine accidents and trends to determine high risk
mines and take appropriate action. Where necessary serve on examination board
9i.e. certificate of competency). Investigate, consult and make recommendation to
other departments on closure Certificate, prospecting rights, mining rights and
permits, EMPs and township. Developments. Conduct surface, shafts and
underground audits and inspections on mining Related matters at the mines and
give appropriate verbal or written instructions. Compile regional reports and give
inputs to head office on the revision of Machinery regulations, drafting of
guidelines and standard directives.
