We require a suitably qualified candidate to provide specialised project management expertise to the Sappi SA region, driving in-house capability to improve project management efficiency and effectiveness from concept to execution phase according to PM²best operating practices and standards.


Minimum Requirements

B Engineering degree.

Relevant Project Management qualification.

Minimum of 15 years’ experience in a similar role of which 10 years should be in a managerial role.

GCC Factories, Mechanical will be an advantage.

ECSA registration as Pr Eng will be an advantage.


Job Specification

Review, develop, optimise and implement engineering best practices and standards as detailed in the PM² Project Procedures Manual.
Provide support and expertise in providing due diligence evaluation of pre-feasibility studies and engineering cost and assistance in preparation for submitting the PPC document.

Develop, review and facilitate the implementation of projects through regular progress reviews in conjunction with Management and Mill Engineering and Project Personnel.

Contribute towards the development of Mill Engineering and Project Personnel by providing project expertise and coaching and mentoring support.

Manage and control all major projects in accordance with the Sappi SA procedures in terms of direction provided by the Steering Committee/ Executive Committee.

Provide support and contribute to regional and global Capital Cluster objectives.

Provide specialised QA (Quality Assurance) and QC (Quality Control) expertise to manufacturing units in Sappi SA region as defined in the PM² Project Procedures Manual.

Provide strategic leadership and support to the project teams at Mill level with respect to overall management activities that contributes towards successful project completion as detailed in the PM² Project Procedures Manual.

o Plan and organise the project through initiation of the project master schedule and capital cost estimate, participate in the preparation of the Project Procedures Manual, Manpower Planning, Industrial Relations Policy and Health and Safety Policy.

o Ensure contractual obligations are carried out in accordance with the terms of the service contract.

o Prepare quality assurance procedures and programmes and conduct audits to ensure compliance with the PM² Project Procedures.

o Direct and coordinate activities with members of the project teams to ensure effective and efficient communication and to analyse and evaluate solutions to technical problems.

o Establish and maintain a climate favourable to the application of ethical and professional practices in the choice of bids from suppliers and contractors.

o Direct, manage and monitor the performance of each Area Manager with respect to cost, schedule, and quality and safety targets.
