The purpose of the SKA SA Project’s Internship Programme is to provide suitably qualified graduates (with a BSc, BEng or BTech) with supervised work experience in radio astronomy science, or electronic and mechanical engineering, for a period of one year. The programme aims to:
a) Provide qualified science and engineering graduates with the opportunity to work in a dynamic science and engineering environment, where their educational experience will be enhanced through practical work assignments. The assignments will be based on actual work required by the engineering and science team and although the work is in radio astronomy, the techniques and skills learnt will have broad application in other technology industries. The skills and knowledge that graduates will acquire through participation in the internship training programme include:
b) Expose graduates to the work of the SKA SA Project and to radio astronomy science and engineering, which is exciting and at the cutting edge of technological innovation.
c) Provide real assistance to the engineers and scientists in the SKA SA Project, from graduates who have qualified in various fields of science and engineering.
The ultimate objective of the Internship Programme is to contribute to the availability of technically skilled engineering and scientific support staff for the new generation of radio telescopes in South Africa.
Closing Date: 15 October 2013
