Head: Litigation: Legal Services (At the level of Major General)

(Post No 15/03/2612) Level of remuneration: Band B (SMS) = An all inclusive flexible remuneration package of R1 005 945 per annum is applicable to the post.

APPOINTMENT REQUIREMENTS: Applicants must:

· Have an LLB/B Proc Degree (minimum of NQF level 6); · An applicable post graduate qualification in the above relevant fields, relevant training and development in Executive Development Programme as well as admission as an Attorney or Advocate with successful bar examination/pupillage examination will be an added advantage;

· Have a minimum of five years’ experience at Senior Management level, in the field of the post; · Be fluent in at least two of the official languages, of which one must be English;

· Have a valid motor vehicle drivers licence; and Be subjected to a security clearance of Secret.

 

COMPETENCIES: Client orientation and customer focus; communication skills, decision making, financial management, managing conflict, people management and empowerment, planning and organising, problem solving and analysis, quality orientation service delivery innovation. Must be proficient in providing both written and verbal legal advice.

 

CORE FUNCTIONS: *Manage civil litigation by and against the state, *Coordinate management of civil litigation nationally, *Monitor compliance with national standards and policies in civil litigation in the SAPS, *Monitor cost visibility and reductions on civil litigation against and by the state, *Compile reports on civil litigation against and by the state to the Management of the SAPS and the Minister of Police, *Receive demands, summonses and/or applications on behalf of the National Commissioner, *Refer demands, summonses and/or applications to the various Divisions and Provincial Commissioners, *Manage and utilise all resources allocated to the immediate post environment in accordance with relevant directives and legislation.
