In our Group Financial Accounting team we produce relevant, high quality financial information that supports and adds value to decision making by the bank’s management, directors, shareholders, regulators and other stakeholders. By making vital connections, we ensure the bank remains a major force in African and global banking.

This three-year programme is designed for prospective CA (SA) members to join this team and to develop into future financial business leaders. With a focus on financial management and commerce, the programme will give you practical experience of all the elective skills required by the SAICA training model. At the same time, it focuses on developing your financial management and decision making skills. We’ve structured it so you’ll not only develop all the relevant skills you’ll need as a chartered accountant, but also to develop your commercial knowledge so you can become a future business leader. By the end of the programme you’ll have the professional and personal skills you need to add value to the Standard Bank Group and ultimately the South African economy.

On the programme you’ll experience a series of rotations in different business areas. These will not only enable you to develop your accounting and commercial skills, but they’ll also give you opportunities to build on your personal skills and ethical values.

The areas you could enjoy rotations in include Financial Accounting, Structured Finance, Project Finance, Corporate Finance, Credit, Tax, Internal Audit, Property Finance, Debt Capital Markets, Derivatives Trading, African Emerging Markets Financial Accounting and Portfolio Investments. You could even go on an international secondment to another part of the group.

What you’ll need

You’ll need to be a postgraduate student who will achieve your Certificate in Accounting (CTA) this year. With a strong ambition to become a Chartered Accountant and a keen interest in developing your commercial skills, you’ll need the confidence and desire to become a future leader of our business. In short, you’ll be a passionate, dedicated and well-rounded accountant who’s prepared to work hard and have fun enjoying the rewards.
