Brief Description

Plan and implement the Regional Transmission Systems according to EBU and Carrier Services requirements
Detailed Description
Strategy Involvement
• Participate in the translation of the transmission strategy and architecture into long range plans
• Assist in formulating inputs towards technology strategy.
Planning & Delivery
• Plan all Regional Transmission networks within MTN e.g. PTP / PMP microwave networks, Fibre networks, RANO networks, DXX / SDH networks, etc.
• Assist in defining 1-year budget
• Prioritise access/core transmission network growth
• Provide capacity and traffic and align with EBU, Radio, Core & IP plans and with strategy and roadmap
• Plan Transmission w.r.t EBU and Carrier Services customer links
• Plan transport capacity across access, backhaul and backbone infrastructure to support all of MTN’s bandwidth requirements
• Identify geographical location for equipment to be installed
• Verify configuration
• Execute Transmission plans accordingly and hand over to operations for cutover and integration into the live network
• Adhere to policies, procedures and quality standards

Network Optimisation & Performance
• Participates in ensuring that quality objectives are met and maintained
• Track and report on performance network problems and performance improvements on regional level
• Participate in investigating performance issues and identify changes required on regional level
• Review design and implement optimization changes
• Where required assist with tender evaluations and formulations
• Provide high level support on the planned network/technologies

Communication and co-ordination
• Implement communication of plans and integration of feedback
• Participate in implementation and integration documentation
• Co-operate with and support of other network group departments at all levels
• Liaise with other areas of the MTN business outside of the transmission department as required for successful planning and implementation (e.g. with Suppliers, 3rd Parties, local Transmission Engineers and Business & Logistics department to ensure that contracts from a technical perspective are negotiated in the best interest of MTN)

Project leadership
Provide high level planning support function and representation (technical) for Transmission planning departments in MTN Group Operations.

Job Requirements
Education:
B Degree or National Technical Diploma with relevant experience

Training:
Transmission courses relating to Transmission DXX, SDH, GSM etc

Experience:
Over 2 years in Telecommunications.

Additional Details
Good knowledge of Transmission, Switching, Signalling, IP and Access Networks (Wireless and Fixed)
Good knowledge of various NE’s (MSC, MGW, HLR, SGSN, GGSN etc) and understand GSM and/or 3G traffic concepts, networks, nodes and inter-working
In-depth knowledge of 3G Transport Transmission technologies, IP/MPLS networks, ATM and IP protocols and Gbit Ethernet, MAN and NGN Technologies would be an advantage
Know how to use software design tools for microwave planning and fibre planning
