Umgeni Water: Senior Operator – DBN Heights WW

Reporting to the Works Superintendent at the Durban Heights Water Works, you will be required to supervise the activities of a group of shift employees, and to control the Works and associated infrastructure, to meet process quality, quantity and cost as well as ensuring compliance with Safety, Security, Health, Environment and Quality Systems.

Minimum Qualification, Knowlege & Skills

National Diploma in Science or Engineering field Chemical/Civil/ Chemistry/Water Care) with 3 years experience as an Operator in a process environment including comprehensive knowledge of water quality parameters; OR Matric/N3 plus N3 Water Treatment Practices with 15 years experience as an Operator in a process environment including comprehensive knowledge of water quality parameters.
Computer literacy (MSOffice) plus SCADA Control System *Unendorsed Code 08 / EB driver’s licence.

Knowledge of SSHEQ housekeeping standards * Good team communication skills * Working knowledge of the operation and maintenance Water treatment processes, methods, unit process, sludge handling processes and treatment technologies * Knowledge of relevant Legislation (OHASA, NOSA System guidelines and SABS Guidelines for Potable Water) * Working knowledge of the ISO 9001 system guidelines and implementation * Ability to control costs and be able to drive costs down for the organisation * Ability to build and grow a cohesive multi-disciplinary team * Working knowledge of electrical, mechanical, electronics, pipeline plant and equipment * Ability to work in shift system *Ability to utilise the skills of others in problem solving * Have initiative *Flexibility *Good time management *Good judgement and attention to detail * Analytical ability *Good communication skills * People Management Skills
