Professorship

  • Applicable qualification at NQF level 10 in a relevant field (e.g. PhD)
  • Record of scholarly publications, accredited research outputs and research activities providing evidence of capacity to conduct relevant research. (At least seven accredited research outputs over the previous five years are required.)
  • At least five years’ teaching or open distance learning (ODL) experience
  • Evidence of academic citizenship and community engagement
  • A substantial record of successful supervision at master’s and doctoral level

 Associate Professorship

  • Applicable qualification at NQF level 10 in a relevant field (e.g. PhD)
  • Record of scholarly publications, accredited research outputs and research activities providing evidence of capacity to conduct relevant research. (At least six accredited research outputs over the previous five years or three accredited research outputs over the previous three years are required.)
  • At least four years’ relevant teaching or open distance learning ODL experience
  • Evidence of academic citizenship and community engagement
  • A record of supervision at master’s and doctoral level

 

Head of the Institute 

The appointee will be accountable for the provision of strong academic leadership in line with the vision, mission, values, principles and codes of practice of UNISA, as well as its Strategic Plan. Through effective leadership, management and development of the Institute, the achievement and maintenance of the highest possible standards of excellence in all activities of the Institute must be ensured.

 

Requirements: 

  • Ability to develop and implement a strategic vision and mission for Institute for Open and Distance Learning.
  • Provide innovative leadership in initiating, developing and reviewing post-graduate academic programmes and research projects in open and distance learning.
  • Ability to work in teams; and good interpersonal, communication skills and resourcefulness.
  • Ability to lead and manage a diverse group of academics.
  • Demonstrate competencies and skills in change management in higher education.
  • Proven experience in liaising with stake holders.

 

Key Duties: 

  • Managing the Institute strategically, academically and operationally
  • Promoting the Institute’s research profile
  • Ensuring growth in postgraduate studies in ODL
  • Co-ordinating ODL research across Unisa
  • Playing an active role as an academic leader in the ODL field on national and international levels
  • Raising additional funds for the Institute’s activities
  • Drive community engagement activities in the Institute.

 

Candidates will be expected to give a 20-minute presentation on their vision for the Institute.

Salary:                         Remuneration is commensurate with the seniority of the position
