Plant Operator

Owned by Rio Tinto and located in the KwaZulu Natal province, Richards Bay Minerals (RBM) is an internationally recognized sand mining and mineral processing operations leader and is one of the world’s foremost producers of titanium minerals, high purity pig iron and zircon.

 

Employing some 2 000 permanent staff and a number of well-established contracting companies, RBM is proud of the accreditation for ISO 9001 for quality, OHSAS 18001 certification for occupational health and safety management, and ISO 14001 accreditation for environmental management. MAIN PURPOSE OF THE JOB:
To monitor, operate and record specific elements within the plant according to given operating procedures and standards.

JOB OBJECTIVES:
Ensure correct operating procedures are followed as per predetermined
processes and standards in order to achieve optimum output
Drive and operate designated vehicles / mobile equipment as required and as
licensed
Check / test / inspect
Maintain and improve safety, health and environmental standards and practices
Perform fair and reasonable tasks related to the job and working environment, at
the discretion of the Supervisor

 

OUTPUTS:
Effective shift changeover
Optimal use of equipment
Safe, healthy work environment and practices
Identification of equipment requiring maintenance
Functional plant
Accurately completed and processed documentation
Clean equipment and work area

 

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS
Std10/Grade12 / N3/NQF Level 4 with Mathematics and Physical Science
Driver’s License: EB (Code 8) is a requirement within some areas while in others
it is an advantage
1 year general plant operations experience would be an advantage
Valid Dover assessment would be an advantage

 

COMPETENCIES:
Basic computer literacy
Basic numeracy
Knowledge and understanding of plant equipment and operations
