Graduate Program application process

Step 1 (April 2010 for 2011 applications)
The first step is to apply online for the Graduate Trainee position

Step 2 (Mid September 2010)
Short-listed candidates will be invited to complete Psychometric Assessments.
The invitation for our graduate trainee program will be extended via e-mail or sms.

Step 3 (Mid September to early November 2010)
Further short-listed candidates will be invited to an Human Resources Screening Interview.

Step 4 (Early to mid November 2010)
Successful candidates to proceed to a panel interview with Line Management.

Step 5 (End November 2010)
Candidates informed of the outcome.
Graduate Program content and format

The Absa Graduate Program runs for a year, during which time you will receive training centrally, as well as within your chosen business unit. During this year you will be developed towards a role within Absa, whilst enjoying the collegiality of being part of a bigger “Graduate” community.

1. Training is provided to develop:

» Knowledge of the Absa business and the industry as a whole
» Product knowledge within specific business units
» Systems and Technical job-related skills
» Leadership and self management skills
» Customer Centricity and related behavioural skills
» People Management processes

The Absa Graduate Program is a permanent offer of employment and as a result all standard employee benefits will apply.

2. The development environment:

The Absa Graduate Trainee Program supports the concept of coaching and regards this practice as an important management tool for learning and development.

Absa has a number of strategic partnerships with highly rated educational bodies and institutions in South Africa; such as the University of Johannesburg, the Gordon institute of Business Sciences (Gibs), the institutes of Banker (IOB), and Damelin School of Banking.

3. Candidate skills and characters:

The Absa Graduate Program caters for university graduates across all fields of study to place in various areas across the bank. Opportunities exist in Gauteng, Eastern Cape, Cape Town, Bloemfontein and Durban.

4. Applicants must be:

» South African, Mozambican, Tanzanian or Angolan citizens,
» Have no more than 2 years work experience, and
» Either in their final year of study or completing a qualification
