Actuarial Manager: Risk and Capital Analytics at Group Risk Management
Role Purpose
The purpose of this role is to co-ordinate and manage the group’s ORSA process and related reporting, and support the business in managing the risk and capital profile by embedding ORSA outputs in decision-making. In addition, the role will support the management and reporting of the group’s life insurance and business performance risk profiles, and the further development of the framework for the management of these risks.
As a member of the Risk Function based in Cape Town, the role will report to the Head – Risk and Capital Analytics.
Responsibilities and work outputs
- Management of the quarterly and annual ORSA reporting process to ensure effective and timely delivery of risk reporting to the relevant management and Board committees, including:
- Management of stakeholder expectations in respect of ORSA reporting process
-Production of risk and capital reports as required on a range of actuarial and risk-related topics
- Drive the development of the group’s ORSA processes and outputs to ensure ongoing compliance with regulatory requirements and deliver value-adding analysis of the risk and capital profile
- Work closely with the business to embed ORSA outputs in risk and capital management and strategic decision-making
- Manage the development and review of the group’s risk management framework, including the risk strategy, risk taxonomy and risk rating approach
- Act as the key process owner for the independent review of the ORSA
- Support the development and optimisation of the group’s risk appetite and stress testing frameworks
- Work closely with business to support the reporting and management of the group’s life insurance and business performance risk profiles, including the development of the group’s risk appetite and policies for these risks, review of reinsurance arrangements, and development of key risk indicators
- Build strong relationships with ORSA stakeholders, including the Group CRO, Head of the Actuarial Function, Risk-type Heads and Business CROs
Competencies required
- Good technical knowledge of life assurance valuations and regulatory (SAM) solvency requirements
- Be able to build strong relationships with colleagues from across the business, and maintain a deep awareness of the regulatory and commercial environment
- Strong communication, presentation and report writing skills
- Strong project and process management skills, and the ability to engage effectively with multiple stakeholders and senior management.

Experience and Qualifications
- Qualified Actuary: Fellow or Associate (FASSA, AMASSA or equivalent) essential
- 7-10 years’ relevant work experience in a life company or life assurance consultancy required
- Previous SAM or Solvency II, life valuation reporting and/or technical risk management experience would be an advantage
- Management experience (project, people and/or process) would be an advantage
