Job Description

To inform group strategy formulation in consultation with the major stakeholders in the Group

PREFERRED MINIMUM EDUCATION

A Bachelor’s Degree in Commerce or Science or Engineering

Masters degree in Commerce or Science or Engineering

 

PREFERRED MINIMUM EXPERIENCE

5 to 7 years experience in strategy formulation in a consulting (Global strategy consulting) and / or commercial environment

Thought leadership

  • Keep abreast with latest strategy developments (content and application) globally through research, reading, conferences, studies etc
  • Provide strategy team with new learning’s through teach backs, discussion groups, news letters, executive discussions etc
  • Refine and complement individual strategy toolkit, thinking style and application paradigm
  • Develop and demonstrate strategy thought leadership through networking, publications, conferences etc

 

Data analysis and modelling 

  • Carry out the following activities in consultation with direct manager/internal clients:
  • Articulate identified strategic dilemma through asking the right questions to understand the real issues
  • Formulate hypothesis to drive analytical process
  • Gather and collect quantitative and qualitative data through various means (desktop research, interviews, focus groups, surveys, external consultants etc
  • Build analytical models to manipulate and analyse qualitative and quantitative data to accept or reject hypotheses

 

Formulation and Strategy Presentation

  • Validate analytical findings through facilitating workshops, executive discussions, client discussions, external expertise etc
  • Refine analytical outputs and findings to address feedback from all sources during the validation process
  • Prepare a written report and /or presentation of findings for approval by direct manager prior to submission to client and/ or executive including
  • Strategic choices
  • Trade offs
  • Implications for how African Bank competes
  • Recommendations
  • Assess impact of strategy and recommendations through engaging with the client

 

Client Relationship Management

  • Create and maintain productive relationships with internal clients through providing advise and conducting client visits
  • Facilitate that clients understand the ‘real’ versus ‘perceived’ need through the application of strategic thought leadership, experience and expertise
  • Keep the client informed about progress on the real need through written communication, telephone communications and interpersonal meetings
  • Build a positive image of the strategy team through exceeding client expectations at all times
