The African Disability Alliance (ADA) was initially called the Secretariat of the African Decade of Persons with Disability (SADPD). The organisation’s name was changed with effect from 11 April 2014. The registration of ADA launches a new phase in the development and maturity of the organisation as a disability-led technical agency deriving its mandate from the human rights movement of organisations of persons with disabilities that constitute its membership. ADA’s mission is to be an African knowledge-based organisation that works in partnership with the AU, UN, African governments, CSOs, Academia and DPOs to promote inclusive development and human rights for persons with disabilities.

Job Title: Director of Programmes and International Relations
Job Location: Pretoria

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Designing, communicating and training stakeholders on the project methodology as well as start-up work including participation in the definition of baseline for the project
  • Managing of Project Officers and communication with key stakeholders
  • Ensuring all work packages are being implemented and monitoring progress thereof
  • Maintaining statistical records and other project documentation in preparation for reporting and auditing
  • Preparing consolidated quarterly and annual narrative reports
  • Managing the full value chain of advocacy campaigns and inputs

The Director of Programmes and International Relations must meet the following criteria:

  • University degree in Disability Studies, or Development Studies or other disability-related field, or human rights law, political science, social sciences or disciplines related to project management, human rights and disability.
  • At least 10 years of related experience in the disability and human rights field at a senior management and programming level
  • Experience working within human rights organisations of persons with disabilities
  • Experience of mainstreaming/inclusion disability in policies, strategies and legislation of inter-governmental political structures (e.g. African Union, Pan African Parliament (PAP), African Commission for Human and People’s Rights (ACHPR)), government systems and programmes
  • Experience in working on programmes/projects funded by international donors particularly the European Union
  • Experience of managing diverse stakeholders, sub-grantees, senior and middle-level managers at Head Office and in distant offices
  • Ability to maintain updated statistical records and other project documentation in preparation for reporting/auditing and to prepare consolidated quarterly and annual narrative reports.
  • Ability to manage mid-term review, external final evaluation and
  • Implement sustainability and risk management strategies
  • Excellent programme design, proposal writing and fundraising skills
  • Good stakeholder management skills

 

Job Title: Project Accountant
Job Location: Pretoria

To support Director: Finance and Operations in ensuring effective and timely accounting and reporting. The Project Accountant will also assist the Director: Finance and Operations in ensuring effective and timely capturing, financial management and reporting on subgrantees’ expenses. He/she will also assist with regards to budgeting, processing payments and sub-grantee reporting. Build capacity of sub-grantees in the area of financial Management as envisaged by the project.

Key responsibilities of this position include:

  • Ensuring timely monthly reporting of ADA Accounts
  • Planning and organising annual audits of ADA Accounts
  • Capturing of all entries into the ADA accounting system by donor cost codes
  • Managing taxation and statutory compliance
  • Preparing and / or providing input to financial reports for the projects
  • Ensuring high standard of financial reports of sub-grantee, country and regional offices
  • Managing all related accountability reports

The Project Accountant must meet the following criteria:

  • University Degree in Financial Management, Accounting, Business Administration or any other relevant fields
  • At least five years or more experience in grant accounting, financial management and reporting, budgeting and general accounting
  • Experience of managing projects funded by the European Union and other partners
  • Experience in working for a humanitarian organisation funded by international donors
  • Experience in preparing external audit files for statutory and individual donor audits
  • Experience in donor financial reports; Knowledge of working with accounting policies/systems/software packages similar to those of ADA will be an advantage.
  • Experience in working on Pastel financial system
