AfrikaBurn is the spectacular result of the creative expression of a community of volunteers who, once a year, gather in the Tankwa Karoo to create a temporary city of art, theme camps, costume, music and performance! For those that have been no explanation is necessary, for those that haven’t, none is possible.

Job Title: Work Yard Administrator
Job Location: Salt River, Cape Town
Salary: This role is banded at C Lower

The AfrikaBurn Work Yard Administrator will oversee the Work Yard and its full scope of activities, and will manage and maintain the AfrikaBurn assets stored here.

Responsibilities:

  • Manage the schedule of activities in the Work Yard and workshop spaces
  • Manage AfrikaBurn’s assets (including repairs, servicing and tracking of assets)
  • Maintain an up-to-date asset register
  • Manage AfrikaBurn’s vehicles and trailers (including services, maintenance and repairs, annual licensing)
  • Track vehicles and trailers
  • Support the procurement process for AfrikaBurn events (receipt and dispatch of goods and materials, as well as receiving deliveries from/for all portfolios)
  • Support the coordination of movement of assets and materials for AfrikaBurn events
  • Coordinate yard truck packing and unpacking schedules for AfrikaBurn events
  • Compliance and licensing of all tools and equipment
  • Maintenance of the yard and office including waste management and water saving infrastructure
  • Budget and track expenditure related to the workshop
  • Safety officer for the Work Yard and workshops
  • Assist office administrator with ad hoc office maintenance work

Requirements:

  • Code 08 drivers’ license
  • Proficiency with the Office Suite and Google Drive
  • Code 14 drivers’ license and experience pulling trailers
  • General maintenance skills
  • Basic mechanical knowledge
  • First Aid/Fire Safety training
  • Previous volunteer experience with AfrikaBurn
  • Human/volunteer centred approach
  • Leadership and communication skills
  • Budget management ability
  • Effective administration and record keeping/record monitoring skills
  • Willingness to work after hours and weekend work from time to time
