AIMS South Africa New Job Position

The African Institute for Mathematical Sciences (AIMS) is an innovative, pan-African network of centres of excellence for post-graduate education, research and outreach, which has achieved global recognition since opening its first centre in South Africa in 2003.

Job Title: Finance Officer

AIMS South Africa, located in Muizenberg, invites applicants for the position of Finance Officer, to work on a range of projects and be responsible for performing key finance functions within these projects. This is a full-time, one-year contract position, with the possibility of extension.

Responsibilities include: 

• Ensuring that purchase orders, sundry payment requests and foreign payment requests are placed and processed effectively
• Following up on the payment of invoices and handling account queries
• Processing of debtors and donations invoices
• Compiling and preparing financial reports, budgets and forecasts
• Monitoring and ensuring compliance with financial regulations, policies and procedures
• Assisting with inventory control
• Liaising with external vendors, other departments and relevant staff
• Capturing of accounting data
• Performing of adhoc related duties as required

Requirements include: 

• A relevant post-school qualification
• At least 5 years of working experience in a related field and/or similar
• Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (verbal and written)
• Ability to work accurately under pressure and to deadlines
• Ability to work in a team and independently
• Strong problem solving, analytical skills and attention to detail
• Sound computational, organisational, planning and administrative skills
• Flexibility, patience and willingness to go the extra mile
• Strong personal accountability and commitment
• Enthusiasm to work in a culturally diverse organisation
• Experience in Accpac and/or Sage ERP
• Excellent financial report writing skills
• Ability to take on new work and adapt as the position grows
• All candidates must be legally able to work in South Africa

Recommendations: Familiarity with a university environment
