Job Title: Scientist – Tembisa
Location: Tembisa, Gauteng, South Africa

Job Summary:
The Scientist is responsible for performing laboratory assays or protocol such as PBMC processing, virus neutralization, ELISPOT and flow cytometry assays according to laboratory SOPs, as well as for Research Publications, capacity building and to search for Funding opportunities and thereby secure the relevant Grants

Technical Work Responsibilities:
Technical Support on Aurum Biomedical Research Laboratory
Aurum representative at External Forums
Proposal development
Secure Grants
Research protocol
Read, analyse and interpret the most complex Documents and write Research Publications in line with scientific research standards
Respond effectively to inquiries or complaints
Present data at internal or external meetings
Make effective and persuasive speeches and presentations on controversial or complex topics to Top Management, Public
Apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations
Ensure compliance and application of SOPs
Perform quality checks as well as run IQC and EQA as per SOPs

Requirements:
Education:
Appropriate Postgraduate qualification at NQF level 9
Knowledge of principles of Good Clinical Practice (GCP) and Good Clinical Laboratory Practice (GCLP)
Current Membership to a relevant Professional Body (HPCSA as biological medical scientist)
Masters degree in immunology, virology or Molecular biology.

Advantageous:
Knowledge on the use of specialised instruments or assays (e.g., Flow cytometer, Luminex, Luminometer, molecular assays etc.)
Knowledge in working with blood, tissues, body fluids, cell cultures.

Experience:
At least 5 years’ experience post Masters degree qualification

Requirements:
Knowledge in immunology, virology or medical sciences, and statistics
Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, routine database activity, word processing, spread sheet, databases etc
SA Citizen or valid work permit to work in South Africa
Advanced computer skills including statistic software for analysis data
Valid driver’s license
Own car
Minimal/Moderate/Excessive overnight travel (up to 30%) by land or air if required
Willing to work overtime
