Job Title: Psychosocial Trainer (TS/Psycho/GR)
Location: Brits, North West, South Africa
Reference: # (TS/Psycho/GR)
Contract Type: Permanent
Salary: Market Related

 

The position demands that Life Skills and Psychosocial Trainers is competent in providing psychosocial support and life skill education and is willing to learn new content and training methods

Technical Work Responsibilities

Training and Mentoring (Drs, Nurses, Counsellors, lay people etc.)
Liaise with internal and external customers
General

Psychosocial Support Training and Mentoring
-Create all training material used to train counsellors and other health care professionals on issues related to psychosocial support of people infected with HIV and TB
-Train counsellors and health care professionals on issues related to psychosocial support of people infected by HIV and TB
-Use appropriate questioning techniques, reflective listening and suitable exploratory activities to identify needs, issues and aspirations
-Make use of relevant adults learning principles.
-Implement learning materials that reflect current information and skills and diverse learning skills
-Assist learners in gaining and utilizing skills necessary to participate in community and society
-Provide support to learners
-Participate and work cooperatively with a team environment.
-Take active part in meetings.
-Maintain learner attendance and records of progress toward skill development
-Conduct training on psychosocial topics
-Conduct pre-and post-testing counselling
-Ability to critically reflect on the psychosocial programme by developing abstracts

Requirements
Minimum Requirements:
Qualification / Professional Membership
Applicable Certificate in Psychology/Counselling, Social work
Advantageous
-Teaching/Training certificate
-Train the trainer certificate
-Assessors certificate
-Presentation/Facilitation skills

Experience:
-At least 2 years Training Experience
-At least 3 years’ experience in psychosocial support and life skills
-Debriefing skills
-Counselling skills

Computer Skills
-Proficient personal computer skills including electronic mail, record keeping, and routine database activity, word processing, spreadsheet and graphics, efficient in Microsoft office,
-Excel and PowerPoint
Other:
-Prioritize, organize and delegate assignments
-Ability to work under pressure
-Tenacity and Resilience
-Ability to work in teams
-Extensive overnight travel (up to 50%) by land or air if required
-Extensive experience and understanding of TB and HIV/AIDS
-Valid Driver’s license
-Own Transport
-Well-developed communication
-Well-developed organisational skills
-Ability to encourage learning to a diverse group
-Initiative and self-discipline
-Strong mentoring and coaching skills
-Knowledge of Life Skills, Trauma, Anger Management, psychosocial well-being & coping, conflict resolution, communication skills, decision-making, substance abuse prevention etc.
