Job Title: Medical Technologist x2 – Parktown
Location: Johannesburg, Gauteng, South Africa

Job Summary::
The Medical Technologist is responsible for maintaining Laboratory Systems and conducting Laboratory Procedures for Research Studies. The incumbent will regularly perform work at a higher level of expertise in carrying out difficult, advanced or complex testing and is required to train other Technical/Professional Personnel and/or functions.

Technical Work Responsibilities:
Liaise with Stakeholders:
Liaise with all Stakeholders when necessary towards the achievement of Organizational and Departmental Goals
Stakeholder engagement
Make appropriate logistical arrangements for Meetings/Events
Laboratory Systems and Procedures:
Ensuring proper Infection Control by following laid down Procedures in the handling and storage of Bio-Hazardous Specimens and Materials
Preparing Reagents and Control according to prescribed Procedures
Shipping of specimens in accordance with SOPs, IATA and Donor requirements
Storage of specimens according to SSP
Logging Specimen Data on LIMS
Assist in the drafting of Laboratory SOPs
General Administration:
Compiling of Laboratory Statistics
Ordering of Laboratory and Clinic Stock
Overseeing shipping of Specimens locally and internationally
Checking of outstanding Results
LIMS back- up and export of Data weekly
Human Capital Management:
Participate in proactive Team efforts to achieve Departmental and Company Goals

Requirements:
Education:
A Medical Technologist qualification at NQF level 6 or 7 (National diploma)
Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist in Clinical Pathologist or Microbiology

Advantageous:
GCP certificate

Experience:
At least 3 years Laboratory processing experience
Clinical or Research experience in TB/HIV care
An understanding of HIV/Aids

Requirements:
Registration with the HPCSA as a Medical Technologist in Clinical Pathologist or Microbiology
Fluency in local languages (Setswana, English, SeSotho, Xhosa, Afrikaans)
Proficient computer literacy skills including Electronic Mail, Record Keeping and routine Database Activity, Word Processing, Spreadsheet, Graphics
SA Citizen or valid Work Permit to work in South Africa
Drivers Licence
Minimal/Moderate/Excessive overnight travel (up to 30%) by land or air if required
Willing to work overtime
