Specification
The statistician will be a member of the Implementation Research Division based in Johannesburg, South Africa and will provide statistical support for research and evaluation projects carried out by the team.

YOUR JOB WILL BE TO:
•Provide expert statistical guidance and support to research and evaluation teams
•Develop indicators with special attention paid to data sources, collection methods, data quality assessment, and research design
•Work alongside data management on developing data queries, ensuring quality of data, and data cleaning.
•Under the direction of the Senior Statistician or Principal Investigator, develop a statistical analysis plan for research outcomes
•Assist with the preparation of progress reports
•Contribute to production of scientific reports, publications, and presentations at national and international meetings and conferences
•Undertake other tasks as directed by the Senior Statistician or Principal Investigator

Qualifications:
Undergraduate degree in statistics followed by a post-graduate degree in statistics is essential.
A post-graduate degree in biomedical statistics or PhD statistics is an advantage.

Work Experiences:
At least 3 years year of practical experience as an applied statistician in the fields of medicine or health
•Advance proficiency in the use of STATA statistical software for data analysis
•Practical experience of managing large data sets and working with multi-disciplinary research teams, including clinical trial teams.

Attributes:
•Commitment to working as part of a multidisciplinary research team.
•Ability to work to strict deadlines without close supervision.
•Knowledge and understanding of epidemiology and public health
•Peer- reviewed publications an advantage
•An interest health research and evaluation

NB: Non –South African citizens must have a valid work-permit
