Autism Western Cape (previously known as the Society for Autistic Children) is a nonprofit organisation that works to provide information and advisory, advocacy and support services to those affected by Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD) in the Western Cape.
Job Title: Locum Social Worker
Job Location: Mowbray, Cape Town
Duration: Three month fixed term contract
Start date: 3 September 2018
Responsibilities:
- Provision of psycho social support and counselling to individuals, families and caregivers
- Manage a large number of clients
- Post diagnosis support and counselling at state hospitals and other accessible locations
- Where necessary to visit families in their own homes to support children, young people, and their families in their communities and in different living environments
- Facilitate and organise parent support group meetings and events
- Performance of all relevant administrative functions and maintaining of case/client records
- Compile reports, making referrals, follow-up and reporting to authorities when necessary
- Keep abreast of policies and new developments in the fields of social work and social welfare
- Weekly, Monthly and Annual reporting as dictated by the Director
- Complete reporting requirements for the Department of Social Development
- Conduct research and needs analyses regarding services and resources
- Assist with training, advocacy work and capacity building of staff, clients and their families
- Assist clients to obtain legal documents to apply for all government grants and financial aid that are due to them
- Assist the director in fundraising and reporting to donors
- Assist the director in development of strategic plans
Requirements:
- Valid driver’s licence
- Have obtained a Bachelor of Social Work degree
- Be a registered member of the SACPPS
- Minimum of two years of experience
- Experience in the disability sector will be a huge advantage
