Job Summary:
In partnership with the leadership of the Audit service line, the incumbent will inter alia be required to determine the long-term strategic technology objectives of the Audit service line, ensuring improved service delivery through directing and managing all technology and digital audit development and delivery activities that align with the organisational and divisional strategy and key business objectives.

The Head of Audit Technology will lead, direct and manage the technology and digital audit implementation output of assigned clients, producing market-leading solutions to drive expected client outcomes and the overall operational performance of the audit technology team and improving digital audit solutions services across the regional offices of BDO South Africa (BDO SA).

Key responsibilities:
•Strategy and Sustainability – Understanding key objectives for Audit service Line and BDO SA, setting priorities and direction and aligning people to the digital objectives. Develop the firm’s audit technology and digital audit function and resources, help support adoption and implementation of the audit technology practice in the firm for assurance partners and staff.
•Leadership and Succession – Influencing clients, teams, and individuals positively, leading by example and establishing valued relationships at all levels. Developing high performing individuals and teams for consistent and effective service delivery.
•Marketing and Business Development – Analysing and exploring market trends specific to the firm’s digital services and implement measures that lead to growth. The National Head of Technology will represent BDO SA in their area of expertise and is responsible for promoting BDO and its brand. The candidate is required to be (become) a respected and well-known thought leader in audit technology generally and/or specific digital solutions. The candidate would be required to present at new business proposals to showcase the technology capability in delivering a quality and efficient audit.
•Financial Performance – Managing the performance of the audit technology team, assisting Partners and Directors in the Audit service lines to achieve their Regional Office and Business Unit financial objectives set out in the business plan and strategy relating to digital platforms.
•Risk Management – Understanding the risk consequences of audit technology and digital audit solutions and assisting with matters that may potentially have risk management implications for BDO SA and recommend resolutions.
•Quality Control – Establishing and maintaining quality standards for audit technology and digital audit services as well as determining the technical training needs of the various levels of Partners, Directors and staff in the audit service line.
Manage the on-going development, enhancement and rotation of audit technology and digital audit services offerings with a focus on delivering high quality and high-value services as part of our audit service offering.
Provide feedback from assurance partners and staff to the National Head of Audit on a timely basis regarding Audit technology.
•Human Resources – In consultation with the National Head of Audit and People and Culture, implementing effective succession planning, people management, development, recruitment, and retention strategies for the division. Ensuring the promotion of employment equity and transformation in line with the strategic objectives of the Audit service line and BDO SA.
•Information Technology – Identifying critical system problems and concerns that may hamper the delivery of quality services to audit engagements. Liaising with IT to resolve the issues.
•Administration – Attending monthly management meetings and report back on activities and developments in the Service line. Ensure smooth operations for the audit technology business unit.
Participate in ongoing global audit technology activities (training events, webinars, surveys) and disseminate communications or other materials (training, publications, tools and templates) issued by the Global Assurance Department for use locally.
•Project Management – Project managing the delivery of audit technology and digital audit improvement plans end-to-end that meet the briefed campaign objectives, and meet best in class digital systems standards.
•Key Stakeholder Engagement -Working closely with client leads, translating a brief into a audit technology and digital audit plan and drive the successful delivery of the campaign from start to finish.

Requirements:

Qualifications and Experience:
•A relevant degree in a business or science discipline, Chartered accountant CA(SA) and Certified Information Systems Auditor (CISA) or equivalent. Master’s Degree in Business Administration (MBA) will be an advantage.
•Minimum 10 – 15 years of practical experience with technology and digital audit and delivery experience.
•Commercial experience in running a business/business unit will be an advantage.
•Relevant industry certifications that reflect core skills to run a technology and digital audit division.
•Working enterprise architecture experience focusing on digital transformations.
•Distinguished technology background.
•Recent practical technology and digital audit improvement project delivery experience.
•Experience in managing end-to-end audit technology projects.

Skills and Competency requirements:
The Head of Audit Technology and Solutions should be a thought leader and break into new digital audit areas that align with BDO SA’s ambition for improved audit quality and efficiency. Contribute to research and trends that affect the technology and digital audit space. They should also have the following;
