Bursaries for South Africans

Formed from a merger between BHP and Billiton, we value our heritage and the strong foundations on which our company is built.  From two small mining companies founded in the mid-1800s, we are now a world leader in the diversified resources industry.

BHP Billiton Bursaries provide educational support to South African residents undertaking their tertiary studies.   Our bursary recipients receive registration and tuition fees; residence fees (or the equivalent allowance); an annual cash allowance; and a personal computer allowance (for recipients of the second year bursary). In addition, bursary recipients from Academic Universities can gain work experience during their university vacations, while Technical University students will receive practical workplace training as part of their integrated learning program.  After graduating, our recipients work for us for a period of time that is equivalent to the number of years they received the bursary.
