Introduction
A bursary is financial assistance given to a student for further study or training. These are usually awarded on academic merit and/or financial need. A number of companies offer bursaries to academically promising students. Bursaries differ considerably in their selection criteria, and in what they cover. Some bursaries are very comprehensive and cover tuition fees, accommodation costs, prescribed books and travel costs, while others may offer a relatively small financial contribution to your studies. You may be required to work for the company offering you this opportunity upon completion of your studies in order to pay back the bursary. The following list of bursary opportunities should help you in applying for a 2012 bursary which is relevant to your career choice:
Bursaries are granted for full-time study of actuarial science at various tertiary institutions. Applicants must show the ability to innovate and share our passion for people; thus maintaining our competitive advantage.
Successful applicants are expected to do a minimum amount of vacation work during the June and December holidays at the Liberty Head Office in Braamfontein, Johannesburg.
Bursaries are reviewed after each examination based on the student’s academic performance and are renewed annually. All bursaries are granted on merit, but preference is given to black (African, Colored and Indian) applicants
Who can apply: SA citizens intending to study full time at a South African university
Requirements: Leadership abilities as well as involvement in extra curricular activities. At least four A symbols on HG in matric or a distinction in maths (HG) and physical science (HG)
Service contract: 18 months for each year of sponsorship
