It also serves as a convener of global civil society leaders through its annual World Assembly.

Job Title: Community Building Officer
Job Location: Johannesburg
Start date: As soon as possible (1 November 2018)
Duration: 14 months (December 2019)
Salary: $3,333 per month

Responsibilities:

Communication and knowledge sharing (30%)

  • Contribute to the identification of member’s knowledge and information needs and development of innovative ways to respond to them (webinars, trainings, etc.)
  • Contribute to the development of knowledge products (research, training tools, etc.)
  • Contribute to YWG internal knowledge management processes

Membership (20%)

  • Support the implementation of CIVICUS and YWG’s membership strategy
  • Liaise with membership teammates to ensure data on youth members are captured and updated on CIVICUS databases
  • Support the Youth Working Group through mapping, recruitment and promotion
  • Assist youth members with application to Crisis Response Funds

Network engagement (20%)

  • Support the implementation of Youth Working Group and Youth SDG Accelerator networks strategy; Research and implement innovative engagement practices that promote local ownership and participation
  • Collaborate with Youth SDG Accelerators, technical partners and the Capacity Development Cluster to identify and support youth advocates needs
  • Monitor and administer the Youth SDG Accelerator relationships and contracts with technical partners, mentors and advocates
  • Identify networking opportunities and potential partners to connect with the Youth Advocates

Convening support (30%)

  • Contribute to the implementation of Youth Working Group convening plans
  • Assist in organising events and other logistics

General responsibilities:

  • Monitor and administer the Youth SDG Accelerator relationships and contracts with technical partners, mentors and advocates
  • Identify networking opportunities and potential partners to connect with the Youth Advocates
  • Assist in implementation of networking and engagement strategy for CIVICUS Youth Working Group to be more active and engaged in CIVICUS alliance and as a community of practice
  • Support implementation of CIVICUS Youth Action Team strategic priorities and annual plans
  • Provide administrative and coordination support to Youth Working Group convenings including: thematic webinars, mentorships, Youth Parkour, Youth Assembly, Youth SDG Accelerators and technical partners planning forum
  • Assist in research for partnerships for global, regional and national youth members and support the development of youth networks based on regional needs leasing with Innovation for Change and Capacity Development
  • Any other reasonable tasks deemed necessary

Requirements:

  • Undergraduate degree or equivalent in development studies, international relations, political science, economics, anthropology, sociology, public policy, or a related field
  • Minimum of two years’ experience of working in a multi-cultural team and in an NGO environment (e.g. volunteer, internship, study aboard programmes)
  • Knowledge of project management, research, advocacy campaigns, partnership building, or project design
  • Writing, communication and analytical skills
  • Computer and internet proficiency, including Microsoft Office (Word, Excel and PowerPoint)
  • Understanding of membership and networking principles
  • Knowledge of global / regional dynamics and civil society issues
  • Written and spoken English
  • Proficiency in French and/or Spanish required
  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a diverse team
  • A communicator – someone with a passion for advancing the cause of civil society and human rights
  • Well-organised, with the ability to work independently
  • Ability to analyse complex sets of information and reveal trends
  • A commitment to improving respect for human rights
