Job Description

Perform Preventative and corrective maintenance on primarily Inter-link trailer combinations with air and mechanical suspensions, including brake relines, suspension rebuilds, repairs to air brake and suspension systems as well as general maintenance. From time to time it may be required to work on other vehicles such as trucks, forklifts, M & LDV’s. Perform standby duties, work shifts, attend to breakdowns, do fault finding and carry out emergency repairs. Order spare parts, interpret spares and workshop manuals. Complete job cards and update vehicle records. Housekeeping, participate in total productive maintenance as well as health and safety responsibilities. Any other duties as assigned to do.

Skills, Experience & Education Matric.
Must have sound knowledge of different makes and types of axles and suspensions utilised on trailers and must be capable of doing preventative and corrective maintenance, including brake relines and wheel bearing inspections,lubrications, replacements and adjustments.
Must have sound knowledge of trailer air suspension and brake systems, be capable of doing fault finding and appropriate corrective maintenance.
Must have sufficient legal knowledge of the Road Traffic Act in order to prepare trailers for road worthiness and annual COF testing and maintenance trailers to compliance with legally prescribed requirements.
Experience in commercial vehicles (Mercedes Benz & UD), maintenance repairs and spare parts will be an advantage.
Must be familiar with basic mechanic hand tools and general workshop tools and equipment.
Driver License will be a strong recommendation.
Must be prepared to work overtime on short notice, and perform standby duties.
Knowledge of truck and trailer wheel alignment and the use of HAWEKA alignment equipment will be a strong recommendation.
