CSA believes “People need nature to thrive “, and so seeks to promote and support conservation, restoration, and sustainable land use in South Africa’s Hotspots as an essential element of food security and land reform, human and economic development, and building resilience to the impacts of climate change.

CSA works in three landscape demonstrations to help local communities protect these natural habitats that support their livelihoods by helping them to acquire skills and implement initiatives help protect nature and counteract the effects of climate change and other activities that negatively affect livelihoods and put species at risk of extinction.


Job Title: Human Resources Manager 
Location: Cape Town

Ensuring that we have the right people in the right jobs and that they are sufficiently supported is an essential part in being able to achieve our mission. This full-time position will be responsible for day to day HR Management function of a medium sized local affiliate of a large international NGO.

Essential knowledge and skills: (If you cannot answer “Yes” to all the items below please do not apply)

  • Excellent computer skills (Excel & MS Word, PowerPoint)
  • Ability to use technology to communicate with remote teams (Skype 4 Business preferred)
  • Knowledge of the Payroll cycle and hands on experience of completing payroll on Sage VIP
  • Ability to compile statutory reports (UIF, WCA, SARS)
  • Working knowledge of employee benefits
  • Able to travel as required
  • Experience working on HR administration systems software
  • Detailed knowledge of labour (and other relevant) legislation, including Employment Equity annual submission  and developing an Employment Equity plan
  • Experience in Employee health, safety, and wellness,
  • Experience of the full recruitment cycle (Ad writing, CV analysis, Interview skills, management of recruitment correspondence)
  • Experience in facilitation of HR training workshops and capacity building


  • Compiling employment documentation for new hires
  • Filing and capturing of employee information both hard copy and digital
  • Loading employees in the HRIS system
  • Ensuring that time recording takes place accurately by each employee
  • Maintaining of leave balances monthly
  • Full preparation of monthly payroll
  • Preparation of statutory payroll reports
  • Support and guidance to line managers on organization policy/procedures and legislation
  • Support and participation in Employee forum
  • Training of staff on HR and Operational policies and procedures
  • Development of an employee wellness program
  • General operational HR support
  • Leading Employment Equity plan development
  • Guiding employees in developing career planning and career pathing
  • Leading employee wellness program development

Skills and Qualifications required:

  • The minimum qualification required for this position is a tertiary degree or diploma in Human  Resources.  In addition, candidates should have a minimum of 5 years of experience in a similar role.
  • Training and practical experience on VIP Payroll
  • Human Resource Information Systems experience is an advantage
  • Proficient in English and able to converse in at least one other South African national language.
  • Demonstrated ability to deliver tangible outcomes
  • Registered with a recognised HR governing body

The position is based in the Cape Town Southern Suburbs.  Salary package will be commensurate with experience – please note that this is mid-level position within a limited budget and not a senior management level vacancy and salary will be capped according to market rates due to budget constraints.
