The DA wishes to appoint a dynamic, self-motivated and goal driven individual, who will be based at our Parliamentary Offices in Cape Town. The successful candidate will report to the Chief of Staff in the Federal Leader’s Office.
The ideal candidate will be responsible for:
- Producing various forms of written communication for the Federal Leader, including speeches, press statements, op-eds, video scripts, briefing documents, internal party memorandums, crafting of rebuttals, and letters to the press and/or the President, as well as any other written communication required
- Providing strategic advice on marketing and communications related matters
- Preparing regular correspondence for relationship management
- Proactively identifying potential speech/writing opportunities
Prospective applicants should meet the following requirements:
- National Senior Certificate or equivalent
- Relevant tertiary qualification, may include Languages, Writing, Journalism, Copywriting
- Proficiency in English required, with an additional language advantageous
- Experience in writing long-format copy for various audiences and across various mediums
- Experience in preparing text for speech delivery advantageous
- Broad knowledge of politics – both political systems in general, and South Africa’s specific political history and system
- Knowledge of legal framework of local and provincial government
- Broad knowledge of world events, world politics, local economic issues and social issues affecting a wide range of local communities
- An understanding of data, graphs and reports
- Ability to incorporate input from others into work
- Excellent communication skills, with the ability to facilitate workshops
- Excellent organisational and planning abilities
- Systematic, comprehensive and displaying excellent attention to detail
- Proven leadership skills and an ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships within the Party
- Commitment to the principles, policies and programme of action of the Party
- Ability to work effectively and energetically around a demanding work schedule, including working irregular hours on a frequent basis
- Outcomes-orientated, not simply task-orientated
- Applicants must be in possession of a valid driver’s license and have access to an insured vehicle for occasional use
